Nutrislice menus are available on Amazon Echo and Alexa enabled devices. You don’t need to do anything special to publish your menus to Alexa. If your menus are published, they will be on your website, app, and Alexa. Customers with Amazon devices just need to add the Nutrislice skill to their account.
There are two Nutrislice skills available for Alexa. They have the same capabilities but differ in the language used.
School Menus by Nutrislice is geared towards K12 schools. Alexa will ask for your district and school name.
Menus by Nutrislice is a more generic skill. Alexa will ask for your organization and dining location.
Set-Up
- Enable the skill via your Amazon Alexa app.
- Open the skill by saying “Alexa, open School Menus” or “Alexa, open Nutrislice Menus” depending on which skill you are using.
- Set your organization (ex. school district, university, college, hospital) by saying “My district is _____” or “My organization is ______.”
- Set your default location by saying “My school is ___” or “My dining location is ____.”
Now that Alexa knows which location you want the menu for, you can ask her “what’s for lunch” each day. This style of command will work for any menu type name within Nutrislice.
Daily Use
To hear the menu for your default location, say: “Alexa, ask School Menus ‘What’s for <Menu> on <date>’?”
Examples:
- Alexa, ask School Menus what’s for breakfast?
- Alexa, ask School Menus what’s for lunch tomorrow?
- Alexa, open School Menus. What’s for lunch on Friday?
- Alexa, ask School Menus what’s on the Pizza Line menu.
Menus for Multiple Locations
Only 1 location can be set as the default location, so to get the menus for any other location, you will need to specify the name in your command.
Examples:
- Alexa, ask School Menus what’s for breakfast at Jefferson Elementary?
- Alexa, ask School Menus what’s for lunch tomorrow at Roosevelt Middle?
- Alexa, open School Menus. What’s for lunch at McKinley High on Friday?
- Alexa, open School Menus. What’s on the Grab a Stack Menu at McKinley today?
Troubleshooting
If Alexa is unable to find your organization:
- Make sure you are saying the name exactly as it appears in the Nutrislice app
- If you have already set your organization, you can ask Alexa to list all the locations in it so you can hear how they are named.
- Try spelling the name of your organization.
Special Cases
If an organization has been deleted from Nutrislice, Alexa will respond with: “I’m sorry, <Organization Name> does not use Nutrislice for their menus.”
If a menus site has been discontinued, but not deleted, Alexa will respond with: “I’m sorry, <Organization Name> no longer uses Nutrislice for their menus.”
If Nutrislice is temporarily unavailable, Alexa will respond with: “I’m sorry, I had trouble getting the info you need. Please try again in a little while. But if you still run into an issue, contact support@nutrislice.com for more help.”
